Every generation decides its own living style and home designs change to revolve around that. Where at one time the television was confined to a corner in the room, today's homes have a special room assigned to it along with its accompaniments. Here are some tips on designing a home theatre room for modern living.

When you're drawing up plans for your home theater, choose a large, rectangular room with lofty ceilings. You want to achieve the feel of an actual movie theater, only smaller and more intimate. If you have neighbors, you might want to soundproof with a little extra insulation so you don't have to worry about bothering anyone else with a loud movie.

If you decide to place your home theatre in your basement or any other room that has low level light, you will actually be making an excellent choice. Low level light is ideal for the home theatre but even if you select a brighter room that has windows, you can place dark curtains or use room darkening shades that block out sunlight to get the proper effect.

When designing a home theatre room, keep these things in mind: it should be built with the appropriate materials and in a spot in the home that prevents it from bothering others when in use; it should be large enough to accommodate the screen and seating you desire; and finally, it should contain the proper barriers to prevent outside light and noise from hindering your total home theater experience.

Other things to consider are getting a stereo, TV, and surround sound, but these will be discussed in a later article. For now, all we'll say is that it's definitely beneficial to do your research on which electronics are appropriate for what you want. You should also take great care in properly setting them up, for optimal results.

There's more to designing a home theatre room than just the shape, size, and electronics. You'll also want to add your personal style with small details that really make the room special. Find couches or chairs that reflect your personality, or even memorabilia from your favorite movies. If you have enough room, you could even include a popcorn machine or a bar. These finishing touches will really be the aspects that you take great pride in.
